May 2016 Atlanta Taco Festival

In lieu of #TacoTuesday, this blog shares information pertaining to the largest taco competition and taco celebration in the East Coast.  

Taco Tuesday Kelly Marsh Brentwood GeorgiaOn May 1st, 2016 the first Atlanta Taco Festival will take place at Candler Park, a neighborhood in intown Atlanta, about 5 minutes east of downtown and just south of Ponce De Leon Avenue.

Whats more, proceeds from the festival will be donated to CHRIS Kids, a nonprofit organization committed to improving our communities by providing children, adults and families with high-quality, trauma-informed behavioral health services and support systems.

Several restaurants, food trucks and caterers will be participating from 1pm until 7pm, according to the festival’s website. Additionally, participants will be able to watch local bands and participate in festivities such as Gringo Bingo, Salsa Dancing, Lucha Libre Wrestling and huge bar experiences by some of the favorite local establishments.

Gringo bingo cards will be available on the festival’s website on April 1st. The prize will be two VIP tickets to the festival. Instructions will be available with the cards and the game must be played prior to attending the festival.

What You Should Know

The Atlanta Taco Festival will be ran on a cashless payment system with RFID technology that will make it easier and faster for attendees to enter the festival and make purchases with food vendors. You will be able to use cash or credit at the Beer Trailers and Craft cocktail bars.

First, you will get your pre-loaded wristband in the mail that is pre-loaded with 10-20 “Taco Points” depending on which package you purchased. Taco Points can be redeemed at any food vendors at the festival. To make a purchase, simply tap your wristband on the RFID reader at any point of sale location to open a transaction. Then place your order. To confirm and close the transaction, you will be required to use the same wristband to tap a second time. The order amount will automatically be deducted from your account. So, no cash handling required!

  • Tacos, Tacos, Tacos! – 10 Taco Points Extra fees will cover the cost of the RFID system, the Lucha Libre Wrestling match and entertainment. – Price: $27.00
  • Tacos and Beer – 12 Taco Points (5) Beer Points Extra fees will cover the cost of the RFID system, the Lucha Libre Wrestling match and entertainment. – Price: $37.00
  • VIP Tacos & Tequila – Private Tented Seating, VIP Restrooms, 20 Taco Points, Margarita Tasting, Separate Beer Line Lucha Libre Wrestling Match, Entertainment – Price: $77.00
  • Tiny Tacos (kids meal) – 5 Taco Points. – Price: $17.00
